The passing of Pope Francis and election of Pope Leo XIV marks a historic and transformative time. In two new episodes of BasiliCAST, The Basilica’s video podcast, Fr. Daniel Griffith, Johan van Parys, and Janice Andersen discuss these amazing Successors of Saint Peter.

Episode A examines the significant legacy of Pope Francis, the pope of surprises, who reshaped the global Catholic and Christian imagination through both gestures and reforms to include a deep culture of encounter, care for all creation, and a profound commitment to the marginalized.

Episode B discusses the excitement of the selection of a new pope from the US, and how Pope Leo XIV brings attention to the importance of Catholic Social Teaching and the common good, rooted in the Augustinian tradition of inner peace and seeking of a personal relationship with God. The panel also discusses his experience as a missionary and administrator who has lived over two-thirds of his life abroad, primarily in Peru, and visited over 47 countries as the leader of the Augustinian order.

“To all of you…throughout the world: we want to be a synodal Church, a Church that moves forward, a Church that always seeks peace, that always seeks charity, that always seeks to be close above all to those who are suffering.” Pope Leo XIV, May 8, 2025
