Christmas Altar

I don’t know about you, but I am longing for the Advent and Christmas Seasons more than ever before. Admittedly, this has been a challenging couple of years. We have gone through a lot, and we stand to face more challenges in our world, in our country, in our church, and maybe even in our homes. I would be lying if I did not admit to a certain level of anxiety about everything that is happening in our world.

And yet, the promise of Christmas fills my heart with joy and anticipation with its timeless message of hope, peace, and renewal. Rooted in the reality that God entered the world as a baby, Christmas offers the assurance that God is with us always, especially in our suffering.

From a vulnerable infancy as a refugee fleeing persecution to his eventual suffering on the cross, Jesus intimately experienced human distress. Consequently, those of us who are struggling can find comfort in a savior who is familiar with pain and understands our weakness. At the same time, Christmas gives us a roadmap to a future filled of hope provided to us by the Prince of Peace himself, Jesus.

We have been planning the Advent and Christmas liturgies for months. As you know, very important for successful liturgies are the vibrant and inspiring displays of trees and flowers that grace our Basilica during Advent and Christmas.

These floral arrangements not only honor the glory of God but also serve to uplift our spirits. The Christmas Flower Fund, which supports the purchase and care of these arrangements, is made possible through your generosity.

Thank you.
