Gregorian Vespers for the Feast of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
Music by The Mirandola Ensemble
Basilica of Saint John Lateran
The Church celebrates the Dedication of The Lateran Basilica, which is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Rome and the official ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of Rome, who is also the Pope.
One of four major Basilica’s in Rome, our minor Basilica parish community is privileged to have a sisterly connection to The Lateran Basilica. Originally, before the construction of that basilica, the ancient family of the Laterani owned the area and lived nearby. The twelve apostle statues that surround our sanctuary are exact half-sized replicas, at six feet tall, of statues in The Basilica of Saint John Lateran
