Saturday, November 15, 2:00–4:00pm, Teresa of Calcutta Hall
Joanne Lindell, Director & Curator of the Thrivent Art Collection will speak to how art informs who we see as our neighbor, and how being seen as “other” inspires artists.
Our panel brings together community members who will discuss their experiences with homelessness, as a vision-impaired individual and as an immigrant from Afghanistan, and engage us in a discussion about how we see all our neighbors and what we can learn from those left on the side of the road.
RSVPS are appreciated for planning but not required. Refreshments from Cookie Cart and Highland Popcorn will be served. Free of charge and open to all.
This panel discussion accompanies the current art exhibit:

“This exhibition has gathered together etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, and paintings that give us visual insights into Jesus’ Parable of the Good Samaritan. The parable itself set out to answer the question: ‘Who is my neighbor?’ and showed that neighbors are not just a friend or family member, but those who are ‘other’ to us and our own communities. The parable operates on two levels. It is a spectacular invitation to a life of self-giving that insists we roll up our sleeves and help no matter what it takes. It also challenges us to recognize that there are no limits to our neighborhood or neighborliness. It demands that even those who are hated and feared are to be seen as our neighbors. The implications of this parable, ancient and modern, are radical indeed. Cultures are shaped by the stories we tell. Stories like the Good Samaritan can help us build a more compassionate society.”
