September 1st is the worldwide international Day of Prayer for Creation. It marks the beginning of the Season of Creation, a period of prayer, reflection, and advocacy for creation that ends on October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis, October 4th.
The theme for 2025, chosen by Pope Francis, is “Seeds of Peace and Hope,” drawn from Isaiah 32:14–18.
Pope Leo XIV, in his message for the day, states, “Now is the time to follow words with deeds… Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience” By working with love and perseverance, we can sow many seeds of justice and thus contribute to the growth of peace and the renewal of hope.
This year celebrates 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assis’s composition of Canticle of the Creatures. We could we put part of that payer up, and link to the full prayer. It is kind of long. Here is the whole prayer: Microsoft Word – Canticle of the Creatures-Bird-Full-Poster – White backgrounddocx.docx
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind, and through the air, cloudy and serene, and every kind of weather, through whom You give sustenance to Your creatures. Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water, who is very useful and humble and precious and chaste. Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom You light the night, and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong. Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with colored flowers and herbs.
