Join a liturgical ministry team
Liturgical Ministers play an important role in strengthening The Basilica's mission to be a welcoming and inclusive community traveling together, with God's grace, on a journey of faith.

Serve at the altar
Altar servers have the unique privilege of serving God at the altar. Acolytes serve Mass once a month on a team and training is provided, with additional opportunities to serve on holy days of obligation; for the liturgy of the hours, baptisms, weddings, and funerals; and for Christmas and Easter liturgies.
Assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the assembly. Eucharistic Ministry is open to registered parish members who have been confirmed in the Catholic Church. Teams serve once a month and training is provided, with additional opportunities on holy days of obligation and major feasts.
Proclaim the Word of God during the liturgy.
Proclaim the Word
Bring the Word of God to life by proclaiming the Scriptures during the liturgy. Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the liturgy. Ministry is open to all community members; selection is by audition and lectors for the week attend a mandatory rehearsal on Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00pm.
Welcome parishioners as an Usher & Greeter
Serve as an ambassador of Christ's compassion and warmth to all who enter our doors. Greet guests before Mass, receive the collection, distribute leaflets and newsletters. Commitment is one Sunday a month, this is a great ministry for all ages.
Take care of the vessels, vestments, and liturgical furnishings.
The altar guild cares for the plants, vestments, vessels, chapels, and shrines — everything that makes up the liturgical environment. Altar Guild volunteers helpw with ongoing weekly work, such as washing linens, cleaning holy water fonts, dusting altars, changing candles, and more.
We also have Liturgical Environment Days, when larger teams of volunteers help create beautiful liturgical environments for the holiest seasons of the year: Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Eastertide. Please click on our Environment Minister tab on this page.
Help decorate for the liturgical seasons.
Join us for a few hours as we decorate for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. All ages are welcome. And it’s fun! There is something for everyone — even small children. It ranges from very artistic activities, to cleaning, to moving items back and forth from storage.
Lead the congregation in song.
Cantors and Psalmists
Lend your voice in leadership to the hymns, songs, and responses of the liturgy or to the proclamation of the responsorial Psalm. This group of liturgical musicians gathers every other Wednesday from 6:00-7:00pm to prepare for music ministry, auditions are required.
